I’ve written a couple posts that largely inform what I would like to share with you today. I’ve written the story of how our church began through a series of posts here on the blog. I’ve also written about how God was drawing people recently in post titled The Season of The Avengers (yes I have a 4 year old). I want to continue upon the foundation of those posts to share with you what I am learning about how God is building His church at Crossings Community here in Katy, TX.
When a church begins with eight people sitting in a living room, you really have no idea how God is going to carry things forward. Sure, you have vision statements and mission statements and all that good stuff but you just don’t know how it is all going to flesh out. Further, the things you think you do know get completely blown away by the reality of how God works. Our vision statement was written through much toil and prayer…. then more toil and more prayer. It was something I felt was of God and from Him and something He was going to bring to fruition in some way. However, there were (and still are) elements of those words that just seemed so far fetched. After all, while that toiling and praying was happening I was serving God at another church and had zero people on board and not a penny of financial support in the bank. They were a bunch of words handwritten, scratched out, and rewritten in a prayer journal.
In the beginning we tried the good ol’ Field of Dreams approach (if you build it they will come) to doing ministry. For us that turned out to be a frustrating venture into making things happen on our own timing and by our own means. With a good handful of years behind us I’ve been able to see how His timing and ways are so much better. In previous ministry involvements, I remember having conversations with both high school students and college students that often went something like, ‘I know you desire to be married and I know the search is frustrating but I can assure you that God will work in ways that will shatter your expectations if you submit to his strategies and timing.’ Well, the same has been true in the life of our church.
God is bringing people to Crossing Community whose stories have been specifically formed by God for His church in this season. We are seeing gifts and passions provided and a divine wind blown into the ink scratched on a journal years ago. We are seeing God further His vision in His timing in ways that we could not have orchestrated on our own. Further, any attempts to orchestrate it on our own would have been a natural remedy to a super natural vision for His church.
This is just a taste of what He is continuing to do in our midst. I have said it so many times before, but it continues to be true in greater and greater ways… I could have never imagined the manner in which God would miraculously provide great people to further His vision in engaging, equipping, and empowering homes for gospel transformation through Crossings Community. As I pray for these families I often find myself overwhelmed by God’s gracious provision.
If you are one of our worshipers at CCC I want to encourage you today in what God is doing in your home and what He desires to do through your home. The job transfer or internet search that led you to our community was no accident. If you live around this community and you are not walking in a growing relationship with Jesus Christ, then I invite you to come and find the joyous blessing of worshiping Him with an incredible community of people.
My family is humbled to worship and serve alongside such an authentic and loving community of people faithfully pursuing gospel transformation in their own homes as well as those throughout our geography.
