A Little Facelift

June 20, 2014 by Matt 4 Comments

We’ve worked through some changes here at Suburbia Uncovered. I appreciate your patience. Honestly, it was nice to get the questions of people wondering what was going on with the site.

The short story is that we began having some compatibility issues. While working through how to fix those issues I realized that it was time for a little update to the site. The first post on the site was on April 26, 2011. I began with a strong vision and purpose, but that strong beginning found itself getting diluted amidst all of the day to day pulls of pastoral ministry.

At that point writing was inconsistent, at best, and fell dormant for a season. It was through some conversations with some great friends God had brought to His church that a rhythm of consistency was birthed. The Skaggs family encouraged me to think about my writing time and posting as a priority in my schedule, even if it meant not getting to other things.

The encouragement I received was met with a work that God was doing in my heart. I had been on a journey of praying and wrestling with exactly how God had wired me to contribute to His greater work around me. I came to affirm that God created me to be a communicator. At this point in my life, I must work hard to give myself completely to communicating; whether through preaching, teaching, or writing to communicating His Word and work.

In October 2012, I set a goal to write weekly for Suburbia Uncovered. Regardless of who or how many read those writings, it has been a great resource in my own pastoral growth. Writing has not only been a way that I could faithfully grow in the gifts and passions that God has given, but also a huge blessing as it facilitates such significant meditation and wrestling.

Yet, much to my surprise over the past year or so of writing, I began hearing more and more from people who came to Crossings Community Church through reading these ramblings at Suburbia Uncovered. The comments often revolved around people feeling as if they came to know my heart and passions as a pastor in a greater way, thus creating a passion for God’s work at Crossings Community.

With a little refresh, I am excited to move into the next season of babbling and musings, great comments and conversation, and incredible writing from gifted guests in the days ahead.

Matt Powell serves as teaching pastor at Crossings Community Church, a body of believers whose mission is to engage, equip, and empower homes for gospel transformation in Katy, TX.
