I actually enjoy exercise. To many that makes me psychotic but there you have it…. please understand that just because I enjoy exercise and athletic activity does not mean I’m a skilled athlete. On the contrary, I’ve always been the jack-of-all-trades and master-of-none sort of guy. I can tell you that even though I really enjoy going for a run that I also need to know my goal. If I’m going to go for 2 miles, 5 miles, or 10 miles that’s fine, but I’m not going to leave and run out into the wild blue yonder without a destination in mind. I believe it is very important, no matter how much you love doing something, that you know to what end you are striving.
Church life isn’t any different… at Crossings Community we have people who really love spending time together. From mommy playdates to guy’s gun-shooting outings through to our worship gatherings on Sunday – people really enjoy spending time together. Yet there is a goal to everything we do through these great opportunities. Our goal is gospel transformation.
Being a Christ follower is not about an isolated moment in time – a prayer or any other event. Being a Christ follower is about transformation. We are a community journeying through life in a transformative way. We interact with truth, digest it in community, and put it into practice through a missional life. This is how transformation takes place, and this is how a disciple is made. Therefore, transformation is realized through embracing the truth, experiencing community, and living life on mission.
Unfortunately, the gospel is often minimized into an idea that only has relevance when someone is hearing about Jesus for the first time. We see that as a huge understatement regarding the work of Christ throughout history. Christ’s presence and work from the days of creation through his sacrificial death on the cross, resurrection, ascension, and ultimate return in glory has EVERYTHING to do with EVERYDAY of our lives. Whether we are trying to get our kids to school on time or trying to close a big project at the office, the gospel has huge relevance and impact.
Our goal at Crossings Community is to be transformed day by day, through walking deeper in an understanding and application of the gospel of Jesus Christ in our everyday lives. We call it gospel transformation.
And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit. (2 Cor 3:18)
