I’ve had a lot of local community members that I’ve know from living in the Katy area for many years, coming up to me and congratulating me on the ‘growth’ of Crossings Community Church. Invariably it comes out something like, “Aren’t you so excited…” or “Aren’t you so encouraged…?” The answer is a resounding, “Yes, I am so excited and encouraged about what God is doing at Crossings Community Church.”
The disconnect between the question and my answer, though, is pretty significant. The question is often coming out of the cultural idea that a church celebrates success through the measurement of warm bodies who walk in the door each Sunday. Bodies walking in the door is a great blessing because those bodies are hopefully coming into contact with the gospel as revealed through the preached Word of God. However, that is but a FRACTION of the equation and only a FRACTION of why I am so excited and encouraged about what God is doing at Crossings Community Church.
God is doing so much more at Crossings Community than merely bringing bodies into the room. I’m humbled and so excited about the way God is overwhelming our discipleship environments. I’m thankful that we are struggling to keep our small groups small enough through the starting of new groups. I’m excited that God is transforming homes by putting broken marriages on the path of reconciliation and healing. I’m humbled and thrilled that God is calling families AWAY from Crossings Community to other countries to proclaim the truth of His gospel. I’m thankful that God has connected us with global partnerships to which we are able to send teams and be a blessing while being blessed at the same time.
More than the number of homes that walk in the door on Sunday, I’m so excited about the homes which are beginning to adopt a Deuteronomy 6 lifestyle through intentionally discipling their children. I’m thankful for the vision and leadership of our Pastor to Family and leaders who work to resource and equip parents well while teaching their children about the gospel of Jesus Christ every single Sunday.
More than just warm bodies in the room, I’m humbled and excited to see the leaders that God is consistently raising up to disciple men, women, children, and be deployed into their workplace and around the globe. I’m blessed to see real and authentic relationships forming and deepening through the most intense crossings of life.
He is doing so much more than bringing bodies through the door. There is so much more to a healthy and biblical church than just bodies. As we give ourselves to faithful obedience and the exaltation of His Word and His glory, I pray that God continues to blow our minds with His gracious work in our midst. If you are one of those stories that God has crossed with ours here in Katy, thank you for engaging deeply and worshiping our awesome God together with us.
If you are searching for something and that something might be Jesus and a body of local believers, we are a messy bunch. We are a messy and often times chaotic gathering of people who, amidst the chaos, love people intentionally. We love the bible and we hunger for truth and expect that truth to bring hope and transformation to every aspect of our lives. We would love to meet you.
Father, thank you for gracious work of transformation and growth in Your church here at Crossings Community.
